Using information and communication technologies, the e-District initiative aims to "strengthen the District administration to deliver government services to the residents in a streamlined, transparent, and convenient manner." Additionally, Sikkim is close to Bangladesh and the Siliguri corridor in India.
According to per capita income, Sikkim is the third-richest state in India (after Chandigarh and Delhi). It has India's seventh-highest literacy rate.
The sharpest decrease in poverty rates has been seen in Sikkim. According to the Planning Commission, from 2001 to 2012, there were 70% fewer poor people. Sikkim has the lowest percentage of people living in poverty nationwide.
